Summer 2008. Three friends have the chance of a lifetime: opening for their favourite punk hardcore band. At the very last moment, the concert falls through but Edo, Iac and Miche don’t give up. To them punk is more than music, it’s a lifestyle. In a blink, they decide to bring the gig to Grosseto, the silent and conservative city where they live. Nevertheless, all the difficulties and problems they face on their way risk to blow up their lives and their friendship.
Acqua e anice is a “dance hall road movie” about Olimpia, a legendary ballroom dancer and a fixture at local dance halls, who, at age seventy, dusts off her orchestra’s tour bus. No tour dates, this time: she is simply setting out to see her fans, her loved ones and all the places where she became a star, once again. For the occasion, Olimpia has hired a young woman, Maria, as shy and awkward as Olimpia isn’t, to be her driver.

It’s June 1st, 1970, and Pisa is the epicenter of the movement Lotta Continua. There are rumors of an imminent coup d’état, and the most visible exponents fear being arrested before dawn. One of them is Pino Masi, a singer-songwriter who wrote the hit “La ballata del Pinelli.” He invites two high school students, Renzo Lulli and Fabio Gismondi, to flee Italy with him, and the three set off. A series of misunderstandings ensues, starting with an unnerving encounter with soldiers on their way to Rome for the national holiday the next day.
