He has starred in many films in his long career.
Recent films include Dark Blue World, Shark in the Head and Handcuffs.
He also plays the lead role in Menzel's adaptation of Hrabal's I Served the King of England.
He is also famous for his roles in TV series such as 30 Cases of Major Zeman and Hospital on the Edge of Town.
He has also appeared in many TV shows such as Maybe the Magician Will Come or the improvisational Russian Roulette as a well-known comedy duo with Jiří Lábus.
Together they also made the long-running radio improvisation series The Tlučhořovi, which reached eight hundred episodes in November 2007, and the successful TV show Zeměkoule.
A species of shoebill (Cychrus kaiseri) is named after him, which he discovered together with entomologist and neurosurgeon Vladimir Benes in the summer of 2004 in Asia.
From 1980 to 2005, his wife was the Czech actress Naďa Konvalinková.
Since 2020, his wife has been the singer-songwriter Dáša Vokatá.

Vladimír Michálek chose an unconventional adaptation of Franz Kafka's novel for his feature debut. Artistically reminiscent of the classic films of Karel Zeman, the director reinterpreted this dark story of a man vainly seeking a place in a rigidly ordered society by changing the desperate conclusion into a happy end. The film provided Czech comedian Jirí Lábus with a new kind of role: that of the despotic uncle of a main hero Karel Rossman (Martin Dejdar).

The local farmers' cooperative organized a trip to Italy, in which the Škopkovci took part. They went there at the invitation of the Italian agricultural cooperative, whose employees are going to visit Hoštice in return. In addition to the sights, the goal of the tour was also an excursion to a modern Italian cowshed. After returning home, Hoštice and its inhabitants are waiting for a "great approach to Europe" - they plan to improve the neglected village by building a nudist beach. However, as it usually happens, the Italian delegation appears at the least convenient moment. Strangely enough, they like the cooperative's neglected economy so much that they propose to preserve it as an open-air museum...
