Åkerfelt attended the Theater Academy in Helsinki 1991–1995, freelanced until 2001 and has since been employed by the Swedish Theater in Helsinki.
He has worked on most Finnish-Swedish stages and participated in several Finnish and Swedish TV, radio and film productions.
