At age 13, he was selected over hundreds of professional teen actors for the lead role in Mike Newell's drama Silent Voice (1987).
Zuehlke was praised for the role and was nominated at the Young Artist Awards in the Best Young Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama.

Average American boy Chuck Murdock goes on a school outing to a nuclear weapons facility, where he learns about the destructive power that sits at the fingertips of the military. Knowing that the world could end with the push of a button, he protests against nuclear war by walking out on his Little League team during a game.
