Eric Clapton, one of the world’s pre-eminent blues/rock guitarists, once again summoned an all-star team of six-string heroes for his seventh Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2023. Held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, the two-day concert event raised funds for the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, the chemical dependency treatment and education facility that Clapton founded in 1998. With actor Bill Murray as the Master of Ceremonies, the 2023 festival featured outstanding performances by Clapton, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Clark Jr., Sheryl Crow, Eric Gales, H.E.R., Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Los Lobos, John Mayer, The Marcus King Band, Roger McGuinn, John McLaughlin, Santana, The Wallflowers, and many more.

The trio included tracks ranging from their 1971 debut to last year's Rick Rubin-produced La Futura, playing all the major MTV staples ("Legs," "Sharp Dressed Man," "Gimme All Your Lovin'"), early blues tracks ("La Grange," "Certified Blues") and covers (Jimi Hendrix's "Foxy Lady.") Despite their inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, to many, they're just "those guys with beards who made a few videos in the 80s." Double Down Live is a 2 DVD set from ZZ Top combining shows from 1980 and 2008. Disc one was filmed at the Grugahalle in Essen, Germany for the Rockpalast TV series. Hot on the heels of their classic "Deguello" album (it features 9 of the 10 songs from it) the show finds ZZ Top before sequencers and synthesizers epitomizing their "lil' ol' blues band from Texas" nickname. Complimented by tracks drawn predominantly from their "Tres Hombres" and "Fandango!" albums this is a true best of ZZ Top in the seventies. Disc Two was shot during their European tour in 2008 and combines great live performances, interview clips and back stage footage to create the ultimate ZZ Top on the road movie. With nearly 30 years between the performances the two disc set gives a fascinating "then and now" insight into what has maintained the ZZ Top live phenomenon.
