Brian Downey (born 31 October 1944 in Newfoundland, Canada) is a Canadian actor perhaps best-known for his portrayal of Stanley Tweedle, in the science-fiction television series Lexx.
Downey is a character actor who has appeared in various films and guest starring roles on TV, including a recurring role on Millennium.
His first film role was in a 1986 Andy Jones film called The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood, which features the entire cast of CODCO.
Downey has enjoyed a long professional relationship with Lexx creator Paul Donovan, dating back at least to 1988, when Donovan cast Downey in the time travel adventure film, Norman's Awesome Experience.
Downey appeared as Cardinal Juan de Mella in Donovan's upcoming medieval TV thriller, The Conclave.
Downey has also worked with Jessica Lange, JoBeth Williams, Sam Rockwell, and directors such as Joe Sargent.
He won the 2010 only acting award at the 2010 Atlantic Film Festival for his role in "Whirligig", directed by Chaz Thorne, with whom he has worked on 2 previous features.
He played the evil gang leader "The Drake", who runs the town in the feature film, Hobo with a Shotgun, starring Rutger Hauer and directed by Jason Eisener.
Downey is also a musician and writer.
Before being recruited as an actor, he spent many years as a musician, as a bass player, guitarist, and blues harmonica player.
He has been a writer for many stage plays, and has led many script writing workshops.
His first full length stage play, "Peter's Other War", was produced during the summer of 2009.

This is the story of The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood, a surreal comedy about a lowly bureaucrat and his fantasies of becoming president of an independent Newfoundland, that was released in 1986. A cult classic in Canadian cinema, the film is well known for the marathon it took to even get made. Principal photography on the film began eight years earlier, in 1978. Written and directed by comedy legend Andy Jones and his brother, Mike Jones, the movie was made on a shoestring budget, is packed with familiar faces and helped pave the way for Newfoundland and Labrador's vibrant film industry. On August 19th, 2005, on what would have been the eve of his 56th birthday, a statue of Phil Lynott was unveiled in Dublin’s Grafton Street by his mother. There to witness the event were members of Thin Lizzy from throughout the band’s career. The following evening, they joined forces under the leadership of Gary Moore for a concert that paid tribute to Lynott’s memory.
To resupply the protoblood that sustains Kai's life, the crew of the Lexx travel back to the Cluster but find the planet deserted. The population was killed in "The Cleansing", in preparation of the birth of the Giga Shadow, the last survivor of the insect wars and sworn enemy of humanity. The crew try to destroy the Giga Shadow with the help of Yottskry (played by guest star Malcolm McDowell), a defecting priest of the Divine Order.
Out of energy, the Lexx is forced to land on a planet to replenish its energy supply. Zev and Stan bury the apparently dead Kai, before they discover an outpost occupied by lunatics led by the manic Bog.
As things settle down on the Lexx, the crew realizes Kai needs a constant supply of proto-blood to continue to function in the real world. Stanley and the others undertake a desperate mission to Kai's wrecked home world in search of a way to extend Kai's existence.

In the real world, Faustus' boss Eddie Peddle plans to indoctrinate the citizenry of Newfoundland with a cult-like geometric theory known as Total Education, but Peddle may be foiled by the revelation of a secret from his past career.
